Shoulder Pain Physiotherapy

Shoulder pain is the 3rd most common musculoskeletal complaint. The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body — and that mobility comes with inherent instability. At ASPIRE we are first-point-of-call experts in all types of shoulder pain.

All Conditions
Signs & Symptoms

How it presents

Deep dull ache radiating down the upper arm
Sharp pinching or blocked sensation with movement
Difficulty lifting the arm above shoulder height
Difficulty reaching behind your back
Pain lying on the affected shoulder at night
Gradual onset weakness in the arm
Clicking or clunking in the shoulder
Sudden severe pain following trauma or fall
Common Causes

What causes this condition?

🔄

Rotator Cuff Conditions

Rotator cuff tendinopathy, partial and full thickness tears are extremely common. Weakness causes the humeral head to impinge surrounding structures causing pain and dysfunction.

🫧

Bursitis & Impingement

Sub-acromial impingement and bursitis cause a painful arc of movement. Highly responsive to targeted physiotherapy and strengthening.

🧊

Frozen Shoulder

Adhesive capsulitis causes progressive stiffness and pain across all ranges. Our physiotherapists are experienced in managing all stages of frozen shoulder.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can physiotherapy fix a rotator cuff tear?
Partial rotator cuff tears respond very well to physiotherapy. Full thickness tears may also be managed conservatively depending on size and symptom severity.
How long does shoulder physiotherapy take?
Most shoulder conditions show significant improvement within 6–12 sessions. Frozen shoulder may take longer given its natural stages.
Do I need a scan for shoulder pain?
Not necessarily. Most shoulder conditions are clinically diagnosed. Your physiotherapist will refer for imaging if needed to confirm diagnosis.
