Lower Back Pain Physiotherapy

Back pain is one of the most common complaints we treat at ASPIRE. It manifests differently in every patient — which is why an individualised assessment and treatment plan is essential. We treat the cause, not just the symptoms.

All Conditions
Signs & Symptoms

How it presents

Localised sharp pain or general dull ache
Pain spreading to the hips, groin, buttocks or legs
Pins and needles or numbness in the legs
Weakness in the leg muscles — sciatica
Pain aggravated by prolonged sitting or bending
Pain with standing, walking or extension
Insidious onset or sudden acute injury
Stiffness getting up from rest in the morning
Common Causes

What causes this condition?

💿

Disc Bulges & Sciatica

Lumbar disc bulges pressing on nerve roots cause sciatica — pain, tingling or numbness radiating down the leg. One of our most common and most successfully treated conditions.

🦴

Facet Joint Pain

Facet joint irritation causes localised low back pain with stiffness, often worsening with extension. Responds well to manual therapy and targeted exercise.

💪

Muscle & Postural Strain

Poor posture, deconditioning and sudden loading cause muscular low back pain. We address both the acute symptoms and the underlying contributors.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a scan for my back pain?
Not usually — most back pain is accurately diagnosed clinically. Scans are only recommended if your physiotherapist suspects a specific pathology that would change management.
Can physiotherapy fix a disc bulge?
Yes — the majority of disc bulges respond very well to physiotherapy. Studies show most disc bulges reduce significantly over time with appropriate conservative management.
Is low back pain physiotherapy covered by Medicare?
Yes — with a GP Chronic Disease Management (EPC) plan you may be eligible for up to 5 Medicare-subsidised physiotherapy sessions per year.
