Common Causes

What causes this condition?

🔄

FAI — Femoroacetabular Impingement

Bony abnormality causing the femoral head to impinge on the acetabular rim during movement. A common source of hip and groin pain in active people under 50.

🏃

Gluteal Tendinopathy

Degeneration of the gluteal tendons causes lateral hip pain — often worse with walking, stairs and crossing legs. Requires a precise tendon loading program.

Adductor & Groin Strains

Groin strains and adductor tendinopathies are common in field sports, runners and gym goers. Range from acute muscle tears to chronic tendon overload.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can physiotherapy help hip pain without surgery?
In most cases yes. The majority of hip conditions including FAI, gluteal tendinopathy and groin strains respond well to physiotherapy.
What is the difference between hip pain and groin pain?
Hip pain refers to pain around the joint itself. Groin pain often involves the adductors or hip flexors. Both can stem from the same underlying condition.
How long does hip physiotherapy take?
Most hip conditions show significant improvement within 6–12 sessions. Chronic conditions like gluteal tendinopathy may require a longer structured loading program.
